COVID-19 ANTIGEN SWAB TESTS

We offer Covid-19 Antigen testing at our Red Hook clinic Monday-Friday, 8am-4.30pm - no appointment is necessary. Same day results.

If you are testing for travel purposes, please ensure you know which test is required for your destination as the practice does not advise on which test as destination guidance is regularly changing.

Antigen Swab Test $100.00

Please note we do not currently offer the RT-PCR.

For other COVID-19 testing facilities on island please visit
https:/www.covid19usvi.com/testing or by calling the COVID-19 hotline 340-712-6299 or 340-776-7519 for any inquiries.

Your results will be sent to you within 48 hours of your test.  The lab, where our tests are processed, requires that you are referred by one of our Providers and provide a copy of a photo ID, and the front and back of your insurance card (if applicable). We ask that you submit all paperwork digitally prior to your appointment in an effort to limit contact. Please email covid@redhookfamilypractice.com to request an appointment, then complete the Registration Form on the Registration Forms page,  being sure to add photo ID and insurance forms where indicated.

What happens next?

1.  You will receive an email invitation to open a patient portal account where we will upload your results when received.

2.  Our staff will call you to schedule a Telemedicine Visit with one of our Providers and a Covid Swab appointment confirming the date, time and location.

Important!

1.  We will not be able to schedule your telemedicine and swab appointments until all required paperwork is received.

2.  There are a limited number of specimens that can be processed each day. The specimen collection kits are prepared in advance using the documentation you have provided and the Telemedicine visit data.  PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE CLINIC UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED A SWAB APPOINTMENT CONFIRMATION; WITHOUT A SWAB APPOINTMENT WE WILL NOT HAVE A SPECIMEN COLLECTION KIT FOR YOU.

What do my Covid-19 oral swab test results mean?

Nasal or throat swab.  This is the test used to determine active infection.

Negative: no viral genetic material was detected in your nose/throat. This could be a true negative (you are not infected with the virus that causes covid-19) or a false negative result (you are infected but your test was negative). You may have a false negative if you were tested too soon or too late and there was not enough viral material to detect.

Positive: viral genetic material was detected in your nose/throat indicating that you have been infected with the virus that causes covid-19. If you have a positive test you are required to self isolate at home. If you never developed symptoms you can discontinue self isolation 10 days after your positive test. If you developed symptoms you can discontinue self isolation 10 days after your first symptom began AND no fever for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications AND improvement in other symptoms.

People can have detectable genetic material/positive test for days, weeks or months. For this reason the CDC does not recommend repeat tests for 3 months for anyone with a history of a positive test.

NOTE: Health Care Coverage varies – please check with your health insurance company for policy benefits.
