Dr. Wright-Francis, a native of Opelika, Alabama ,holds an esteemed academic background. Having secured the valedictorian position at Opelika High School, she pursued her higher education at Harvard and Radcliffe University, culminating in a cum laude graduation. Her academic journey continued at Harvard Medical School, where she obtained her degree in 1992.
Following her medical education, she embarked on a diverse professional path. Commencing with an internship in internal medicine at the University of Texas at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, she briefly took on the role of a stay-at-home mom before entering a distinguished OB/GYN residency at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Wright-Francis subsequently devoted 12 years to private practice at East Atlanta OB/GYN before relocating to St. Thomas with her two daughters.
With an illustrious career spanning various medical institutions, she served on staff at Schneider Regional Medical Center for an extensive period and assumed responsibilities as an OB/GYN physician and medical director at St. Thomas East End Medical Center for 14 years. Taking a sabbatical year, she delved into the study of lifestyle medicine, reflecting her commitment to holistic well-being.
Rejoining the workforce in March 2021, she currently serves as an OB/GYN associate at Red Hook Family Practice. Her dedication to public health is evident in her role at the Virgin Islands Department of Health, where she has contributed significantly to the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Division. Notably, she led the COVID Mitigation Team until December 2021 and continues her impactful work in both the Family Planning and MCH Divisions.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Wright-Francis treasures family ties, with an 83-year-old mother and two brothers residing in the South. Her daughters, both college graduates, are pursuing careers in corporate communications and public health. Actively involved in her faith community, she attends Zion Outreach and Evangelical (ZOE) Church in Lindbergh Bay and participates in Alfred Street Baptist Church's online services from Alexandria, Virginia.
Dr. Wright-Francis is not only a distinguished medical professional but also a well-rounded individual with a passion for literature and a love for exploration. Having explored 36 countries and 37 states, she is delighted that global travel is once again safe. Her overarching mission is to promote health and well-being in the Virgin Islands through the advocacy of a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle.
