Siri Akal, MD
Medical Director, Family Medicine Physician
Trinidadian born Dr. Siri Akal graduated in 1989 from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (MB BCh BAO) with a doctorate in medicine and obstetrics.
Dr. Siri Akal has been a practicing physician for over 25 years. She obtained her US Residency in Family Medicine at University of Miami/ Jackson Memorial Hospital. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine since 1999. Dr Akal was appointed Assistant professor and Associate Residency Director of Family Medicine from 1999-2007 at the University of Miami. She attended Chapel Hill University, North Carolina and was awarded an academic fellowship in Faculty Development in 2004. She was appointed Medical Director of the Jefferson Reaves Sr. Health Center in Overton, Miami from 2004-2007.
Dr. Akal has lectured nationally on many aspects of family medicine. Most notably the Primed Harvard/University of Miami lecture series.
In 2007 she joined the Red Hook Family Practice as a family practice physician and provides the complete spectrum of Family Medicine. She has a keen interest in Adult /Pediatric Preventive Health, cardiac stress testing and prenatal and postpartum obstetric care. She has trained in skin esthetics (Botox & Dermal Fillers) and recently obtained a certificate in skin cancer screening from the University of Queensland, Australia.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Akal serves as Treasurer of Patient Assist VI, an NGO that helps provide assistance for medication to residents of the Virgin Islands.
She enjoys providing comprehensive medical care for the entire family and is fluent in English and Spanish.
